Central Russia is one of oldest parts of the country where Russian history was made. In medieval times, it comprised of various independent principalities which eventually united under the flag of the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Since then it’s been the centre of country’s political, cultural and economic life. You won’t find that amount of historic cities, picturesque onion-domed churches and medieval kremlins anywhere else in the country. But Central Russia is not only about ancient cities, it’s also about national parks with beautiful rivers, lakes and woods, luxurious country houses and estates turned into museums, secluded monasteries, and traditional handcrafts. And Moscow is not only the heart of it but also a perfect hub for exploring this part of the country.
